Hunters around the world have come to know Catahoula lake as the gold standard in duck hunting.
The lake, encompass's Big Saline Bayou LaSalle, Rapides, and Grant parishes and is located approximately seven miles southeast of the town of Jena and 20 miles northeast of Alexandria. Little River is located at the southwest end and French Fork River runs parallel to the eastern shoreline.
It's recognized by Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance and a critical habitat for over 30,000
acres of wetland which are home to more than 500,000 waterfowl. Including blue bill, ring neck, wood ducks, mallard, teal, widgeon, gadwalls, pintails, scaup, canvasbacks and redheads.
As many as 200,000 migrating northern pintails and 26 percent of the total North American canvasback population winter here.
